The 2018 season of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo to start from Middle East

RELEASE DATE: 22 Jan 2018
The racing season of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo will officially start during the first weekend in February. The 2018 season of the famous one-make series for Huracán Super Trofeos will kick off from the Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi, with the first round of the Middle East series that precedes, by a few months, the start of the three continental series Europe, Asia and North America.

Now in its second season, the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Middle East will have the same successful format introduced in 2017, with three double rounds taking place on the circuits of Yas Marina and Dubai, between early February and early March. The latter circuit will host the second and third round with two different configurations of the track of the United Arab Emirates.

Each weekend will consist of two 50-minute races preceded by two qualifying sessions (20 minutes each) and two free practice sessions (60 minutes each), with the usual four driver classes: Pro, Pro-Am, Am and Lamborghini Cup.

About twenty Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeos are expected at the start of the Abu Dhabi round taking place on the F.1 circuit of Yas Marina on February 2-3. The cars will be fielded by teams well-established in the one-make series as well as by some newcomers. Let us name, for example, the debut of the Japanese team Emperor Racing and the return of the English team Toro Loco. Additionally, there will be Antonelli Motorsport, winner of the Super Trofeo Europe, GDL Racing, 2017 winner in the PRO and AM categories in the Middle East series, Konrad Motorsport, which instead took the victory in the Pro-Am, FFF Racing Team by ACM, which are racing both in the Middle East and in Asia, and  lastly GT3  Poland.

In April, it will instead be the turn of the three main continental series of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo. The first series to kick off the season will be the Asian one, with the first round of the Super Trofeo Asia taking place at Sepang, Malaysia on April 14-15, on the same weekend as the Blancpain GT Series Asia. The following week, on April 21-22, the Monza circuit will, as usual, host the opening round of the European series, now in its tenth edition, on the same weekend as the first round of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup. In Europe, for instance, there will be a new entry in the calendar: Misano Adriatico (June 23-24) instead of Paul Ricard.

For the Super Trofeo North America, instead, it will be necessary to wait till the weekend of May 5-6. After a few years of absence, the series will be starting again from the Mid-Ohio circuit in conjunction with the IMSA GT series.
