Lamborghini Super Trofeo: 2019 calendars and news

RELEASE DATE: 15 Nov 2018
  • New format for the Super Trofeo Middle East
  • New circuits in Europe, Asia and America
Sant’Agata Bolognese/Rome, 15 November 2018 – The 2019 season of Lamborghini Super Trofeo, the one-make championship that once again next year will run on three different continents, kicks off in February in Dubai. The new season brings lots of news, with a new format for the Middle East and new circuits to enrich the calendars of the Super Trofeo Asia, Europe and North America.

Two rather than three rounds will be on tap in the Super Trofeo Middle East, with three races for each leg of competition on two consecutive weekends, Dubai (14-16 February) and Abu Dhabi (21-23 February). In addition, for the first time the winners of each class will be admitted to the World Finals, the culmination of the sports season of Sant’Agata Bolognese.

Important changes have been made to the calendars of the Super Trofeo North America and Super Trofeo Asia, both starting on 7 April. In the United States, the one-make competition will start for the first time from the Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama, in conjunction with the historic leg of the IndyCar Series, which every year brings in more than 100,000 fans. Five rounds are scheduled in the U.S., with the weekend at Barber Motorsports Park to be followed by appointments at Watkins Glen, Road America, Virginia International Raceway, and Laguna Seca.

South Korea enters for the second time in the history of the Super Trofeo Asia following the Inje round in 2013. The Korean International Circuit in Yeongam, for four years the theater of the Korean Gran Prix of Formula One, hosts the fourth round, following Sepang (Malaysia), Suzuka (Japan), Fuji (Japan) and before Shanghai (China).

Finally, the Super Trofeo Europe: Silverstone (United Kingdom), Misano Adriatico (Italy), Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium) and Nürburgring (Germany) will be joined by the new round at Zandvoort (Netherlands), the halfway point of the season.

No changes in format for the racing weekends for Asia, Europe and North America, with two 50-minute heats preceded by two qualifying rounds (20 minutes each) and two free practice sessions (60 minutes each). For the Middle East, there will be three 50-minute races for each round, and to establish the starting grid of the third heat, the times obtained by each car during the Q1 and Q2 qualifying sessions will be added together. The four classes for participating teams are confirmed: Pro, Pro-Am, Am and Lamborghini Cup.
