Sant’Agata Bolognese/Le Castellet, June 25, 2017.

Mikaël Grenier and Loris Spinelli have scored their second success of the season with the team Antonelli Motorsport. Jonathan Cecotto and Vito Postiglione, instead, finished second after taking their third win in a row yesterday and are therefore still leading the PRO standings. This is the result of the second of the two races held at Paul Ricard, during the third of the sixth rounds of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe.

This race did not fail to offer emotions. The protagonists were Spinelli and Postiglione, who struggled to win throughout the second stint, during which the driver of Imperiale Racing took the lead on a couple of occasions but then closed behind his opponent after a sprint finish, with a gap of just 340 milliseconds between the two.

The podium was then completed by the duo of GDL Racing, formed by Rik Breukers and Axcil Jefferies, who repeated their third-place finish obtained in Race 1 and gained other precious points. They are now second in the championship, nine points behind the top position and five ahead of  Raphael Abbate and Yuki Nemoto. After starting from the pole position with a car of VS Racing, the latter two drivers finished fourth and the Japanese even led the race during the early laps.

The returning Davide Roda and Kikko Galbiati scored a seventh place overall and a victory in the PRO-AM. The latter also took his second win (after the one conquered with Gianluca Giraudi at Silverstone), which allowed him to increase his advantage in his class. The duo of Antonelli Motorsport celebrated the victory after the finish line, when a penalty inflicted on the driver of VS Racing, Liang Jatong, restored the situation. During the final lap, the Chinese driver had a contact with Roda, who was then leading the race.

In the AM category, Raffaele Giannoni  (Automobile Tricolore) secured his second success of the season and finished ninth overall, ahead of the Poles Andrej Lewandowski and Tedor Myszkowski, who are still leading the standings, after their fourth win scored with a car of VS Racing in Race 1.

It was an almost complete triumph for the team Antonelli Motorsport, which also celebrated the victory of Juan Perez in the Lamborghini Cup. The Colombian driver, at his first experience in this continental series after debuting in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America this year, was the fastest  in the two qualifying sessions held on Saturday morning, he then finished ahead of Gerard Van der Horst, who is still leading the standings.

The next round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe will take place at the end of July on the Belgian circuit of Spa-Francorchamps, during the same weekend as the fascinating 24 Hours of Spa.

DRIVERS’ QUOTES

Loris Spinelli/Antonelli Motorsport (1st overall and in the PRO): "It was really a hard-fought race. In the straight stretches, Postiglione managed to reduce the advantage I had over him, but I succeeded in remaining ahead of him till the end. I’m very happy because I really raced with my heart. I wish to dedicate this victory to my team and family".

Kikko Galbiati/Antonelli Motorsport (1st in the PRO-AM): "I think this was a well-deserved win, after missing the victory during the final laps yesterday. I finished the weekend as a standings leader and that was my goal before this French round".

Raffaele Giannoni/Automobile Tricolore (1st in the AM): "The car had a good pace. I had no problems and even managed to keep two PRO drivers behind me as long as I could. In the second part of the race I focused on getting the class victory".

Juan Perez/Antonelli Motorsport (1st in the Lamborghini Cup): "This was my debut in the European series and on this track. I didn’t expect to get a victory at once. I’m satisfied with this weekend".
