Alberto Viberti (Autocarrozzeria Imperiale) takes the pole position in the 2014 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo World Final in Sepang (MAL)

Sant'Agata Bolognese/Sepang, 22 November 2014. Andrea Viberti will start from pole position in Race One of the 2014 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo World Final in Sepang. The Autocarrozzeria Imperiale driver set the fastest time in 2'13.060 at the end of the single 40' qualifying session.

Wet conditions greet the 40-car lineup due to the pouring rain that affected the track up to ten minutes before the green light. All entrants opt for "rain" tyres trying to find the right balance, with the first quickest from being the Japanese pair Hironori Takeguchi – Masami Kageiama (Top Speed Racing).

Half way through the session, with the track drying, all drivers visit the pits to swap to slick tyres. The first back out is the PRO-AM race from Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Asia, Max Wiser, who clocks a lap speed two seconds faster than the Japanese duo. After a few minutes and it's Kevin Conway-Lawson Aschenbach's time to take provisional pole position. The Change Racing PRO-AM Super Trofeo North America winners are soon outpassed though by the Super Trofeo Europe protagonists Milos Pavlovic and Mirko Bortolotti (Bonaldi Motorsport). The very last lap is thus decisive in setting the Race One World Final grid.

As soon as the qualifying time is over the best lap time is set once more by the Change racing duo, by Mirko Bortolotti and by the PRO-AM pair Yasuyuki Uchida – Tomonogu Fujii (Top Speed China). When all looks set the Italian Alberto Viberti, 2013 AM World Champion, storms past ensuring pole position. The Welsh Jake Rattenbury (Automobili Lamborghini Racing Team UK), sixth overall, sets AM Class pole.

Tomorrow the green light will be given at 10.00 and 15.00 (both local time – GMT +8). Races will be live streamed on the Lamborghini Squadra Corse website: http://squadracorse.lamborghini.com/en/live-world-final
