Sant’Agata Bolognese/Long Beach, 26 September 2021 – Lamborghini took its first IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship victory on the iconic streets of Long Beach in California thanks to Paul Miller Racing's Bryan Sellers and Madison Snow. The pair, driving the #1 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo, now lie second in the Sprint Cup standings ahead of the season finale at VIR next month.
The duo started the weekend strongly, setting the second fastest time in opening practice before ending up third quickest in FP2. Sellers and Snow went even better in qualifying, going fastest and taking pole position.
From the start, Snow held onto his lead and duly extended his margin to nearly three seconds before putting for the first time. He handed over the reigns of the #1 to Sellers, who continued the strong form of the Huracán GT3 Evo during his stint in the final hour.
The winning margin was 11 seconds at the finish, and was perhaps the most important success of the season, as it vaulted Paul Miller Racing into second place in the points standings, firmly in the hunt to retain the Sprint Cup Teams' title which it won last year.
Meanwhile, in Europe, there was yet more valuable points scored by VS Racing's Frederik Schandorff and Michelle Beretta in the penultimate round of the International GT Open series at Monza. The weekend could not have offered more contrasting weather, with the #63 having to contend with dry conditions in Saturday's opener and a torrential downpour in the second.
Schandorff and Beretta qualified on pole for the first encounter but had to make do with second at the flag. An issue in qualifying meant the pair could only manage 11th, but a sterling opening stint from Schandorff took the #63 up into second before handing over to Beretta. They finished third at the end but still hold the points lead heading into the final round at Barcelona in October.
Over in Spain, the final round of the Fantec GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup tool place and yielded a podium for Emil Frey Racing's Albert Costa and Norbert Siedler in Race 2. In the Pro-Am category, Barwell Motorsport's Miguel Ramos and Henrique Chaves put one hand on the title with a pair of podiums. There was cause to celebrate in the Silver Cup, as Emil Frey Racing’s Alex Fontana wrapped up the title after Race 2, capping off a super season for the #14 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo crew.
