Sant’Agata Bolognese/Nürburg, September 17, 2017.
It has been a perfect weekend that of the Nürburgring for Mikaël Grenier and Loris Spinelli, in the fifth and penultimate round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe. After dominating from the pole on Saturday, the duo of Antonelli Motorsport managed to grant an “encore” in Race 2, which took place in mixed conditions with a wet track, which however tended to dry up. The two drivers scored their fifth success of the season and shot to the top of the PRO standings. The drive-thru received by Jonathan Cecotto for not respecting the minimum time imposed during the pit-stop, when he got into the car and took over the wheel from Vito Postiglione, relegated the duo of Imperiale Racing to the fifth position. The two drivers arrived in Germany as leaders of the standings but they are now second with a “gap” of three points from the top position and are four points ahead of Rik Breukers and Axcil Jefferies (GDL Racing), who finished third. After celebrating the pole position obtained by the Brazilian driver, Raphael Abbate and Yuki Nemoto finished second with the car of VS Racing and still remain eligible for Imola’s final round with a 12-point disadvantage against Grenier and Spinelli.
But the German round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe also awarded the first title of the season. The third class place scored by Andrej Lewandowski and Teodor Myszkowski  (VS Racing) allowed the two Poles to mathematically close the game in the AM category. This was also due to Raffaele Giannoni’s withdrawal, who had started from the pole position twice and finished first in Race 1 yesterday. In the same class, instead, the German drivers of  Dörr Motorsport took their first win on their home circuit today, whereas Nicolas Gomar (AGS Event) finished second.
At his first experience on the Nürburgring circuit, Kikko Galbiati, with the returning Gianluca Giraudi as a co-driver, finished sixth overall and scored his third victory in the PRO-AM, thanks to an impeccable second stint. The driver of Antonelli Motorsport thus managed to reduce to a single point his disadvantage against the leaders Christopher Dreyspring and Liang Jiatong (VS Racing), who finished fifth after taking the victory in Race 1. In the same category, Niels Lagrange and Pieter Vanneste (Leipert Motorsport), finished second, while  Shota Abkhazava and Kelvin Snoeks (Artline Team Georgia) got a third-place finish.
In the Lamborghini Cup, the Colombian Juan Perez scored his fifth consecutive win and completed the triple win of the team Antonelli Motorsport, thus approaching the unbeaten leader of the standings, Gerard Van der Horst, as well as William Van Deyzen (both racing with the colors of Van der Horst Motorsport).
The next and last round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe will take place on November 16-17 at Imola, where the series Asia and North America will converge. The fifth edition of the World Final will be held on the same weekend.
Mikaël Grenier/Team (1st overall and in the PRO): "I had never raced on this track, therefore everything was more difficult, also because of the wet/dry asphalt conditions. But eventually, everything went smoothly, my co-driver was perfect as usual and now we have to concentrate on the Imola round, where we will fight for the title".
Kikko Galbiati/Antonelli Motorsport (1st in the PRO-AM): "The car was perfect as usual. Gianluca (Giraudi), who came back to help me, did also a good job in his first stint. Now the championship is getting very interesting".
Philipp Wlazik/Dörr Motorsport (1st in the AM): "It was a difficult race, with uncertain conditions: first there was the rain, then the track began to dry. I’m happy with this victory, the first of the season".
Juan Perez/Antonelli Motorsport (1st in the Lamborghini Cup): "It was the first time, I’d driven on wet asphalt with dry tires. I was very careful and tried to make no mistakes. It’s been a fantastic weekend on a track I didn’t know. The team did really a great job".
