Attainment of targets confirmed: the event obtains ISO 20121 certification
Sant'Agata Bolognese, 29 April 2024 – Automobili Lamborghini demonstrates its ongoing commitment to environmental and sustainable causes during its Super Trofeo World Finals in November 2023. The emissions and waste reduction targets the Sant’Agata Bolognese-based company had set were validated during the weekend held at the Vallelunga, Rome circuit by TÜV Italia, a certification body for environment, quality, energy and safety, awarding ISO 20121 recognition certifying that environmental, social and economic sustainability criteria were met in the organization of the event.
Lamborghini Squadra Corse had already achieved certification to the ISO 20121 standard for the Misano leg of the Super Trofeo Europe in 2022. Numerous targets touching on various aspects of the competition were established and attained during the event, including use of 100% recycled or administration-certified paper as well as the catering service’s use of bio-compostable cutlery. More than 40% of the products at the catering service were sourced from local vendors that participate in sustainable and other endeavors. In fact, the companies involved in the catering service took part in a meal recovery program for charity in partnership with Rome’s Food Bank. During the weekend of the race, over 500 meals were recovered and donated to the San Giovanni Battista parish.
Training classes and awareness-raising lectures on sustainability-related topics were held during the event, which involved hundreds of people including team members, drivers and guests. The aim was to teach appropriate actions in order to buy less and waste less. To boost energy efficiency, a high-efficiency air conditioner was used. In addition, LED strips were installed in lieu of the lamps in each location, resulting in an average power consumption of 0.005 kWh per square meter — far less than the target of 0.100 kWh per sqm. To cut emissions even further, Automobili Lamborghini provided drivers and team members with electrically propelled vehicles to get about the circuit, including 15 golf cars and eight scooters.
Thanks to these actions and the awareness-raising activities aimed at all event participants, the ISO 20121 was a well-deserved honor for Lamborghini Squadra Corse. With the addition of this new component to the larger “Direzione Cor Tauri” strategy, Automobili Lamborghini is tangibly showing its commitment to protecting the planet.
