Four rounds of one-make championship to join FIA WEC support bill as IMSA partnership also extended
Sant’Agata Bolognese, 2 November 2023 – Lamborghini Super Trofeo will be represented on the world stage like never before in 2024, with four rounds featuring on the support bill of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) following the announcement of the regional calendars.
In line with Lamborghini Squadra Corse’s maiden assault at the top-tier of international sportscar racing, in both FIA WEC and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the one-make Super Trofeo category will play a big role on the support bill of each in 2024, as well as continuing its relationship with the SRO Motorsport organised, GT World Challenge.
Super Trofeo Europe, the longest-running Lamborghini one-make championship, will be present at three WEC rounds next year, kicking off its season on home soil at Imola at the end of April. Next up is an earlier-than-usual trip to Spa-Francorchamps, the Belgian circuit remaining the only track to have featured in every edition of Super Trofeo Europe since the inaugural season in 2009. The jewel-in-the-crown race weekend of the year then follows at the mythical Circuit de la Sarthe in Le Mans, as Super Trofeo takes centre stage on one of the world’s most iconic and challenging tracks. Never before has the one-make championship supported the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans and it is expected that a bumper entry of Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2s will grace the French circuit on the weekend Lamborghini makes its long-awaited first appearance in the 24 Hours with a pair of its SC63 LMDh prototypes. A month after Le Mans, Super Trofeo Europe returns to its roots somewhat, by joining the support bill of the SRO-organised Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup bill at the Nürburgring, before heading to Barcelona for the penultimate round. The final round will be announced on the weekend of this year’s World Finals at Vallelunga.
Across the Pond, Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America continues its long association with IMSA by joining the support bill for four of the five rounds on American soil. The season begins at the beginning of March, with the historical, bumpy airfield of Sebring hosting the opening round of the year. Racing on the support bill of IMSA and the 12 Hours of Sebring, the US-based championship will be under the international spotlight. Round two takes the crews from one side of the USA to the other, with WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca presenting a vastly different sort of challenge. Watkins Glen in upstate New York marks the halfway point of the season, before a trip to the Circuit of the Americas in Texas – joining the FIA WEC round – after the summer break. The series then returns to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the second year in a row for the fifth round.
Having made a successful return to action in 2023 following a three-year hiatus, Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia will again cement its position as one of the most varied one-make Lamborghini championships by hosting 10 races in five different countries in the Asia-Pacific region. The season begins at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia on the opening weekend of May before returning to Australia for round two, which will be held at The Bend circuit near Adelaide. Korea again takes its place on the calendar, with the Inje circuit in the north of the country hosting a pair of 50-minute races on the weekend of 19th July. Ever popular, the Fuji circuit in Japan once again features on the 2024 calendar, with the combination of long straights and twisty sections delivering a particular challenge to crews. Prior to the season-closing World Finals, the penultimate round will be held at the Shanghai International Circuit in China in September.
Following the completion of the three regional championships, the traditional World Finals will bring to a close the 2024 racing season. In its 11th year, the World Finals will be held at the end of the regional campaigns, with the date and venue to be announced during the 2023 World Finals at Vallelunga.
