First Win For Martin Kodric In The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo At The Nurburgring

RELEASE DATE: 18 Sep 2016
Nürburg/Sant’Agata Bolognese, September 18, 2016

First victory for Martin Kodric, who scored a success in the second race of the fifth and penultimate round of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe. At the Nürburgring circuit in Germany, the 19-year-old Croatian of the team Bonaldi Motorsport and Lamborghini Squadra Corse Young Driver, already in evidence during qualifying where he had already got the second place in both sessions, managed to make the most of the pit-stops and overtook Harald Schlegelmilch on his return to the track. The driver of Artline Team Georgia, (twice in pole position and first in Race 1), was able to maintain the lead position at the start, after two laps under the safety car, because of the difficult track conditions, made particularly insidious by the rain, which had been falling just until before the race start. The Latvian driver still finished second, thus completing a particularly positive weekend.

Dennis Lind also got to the podium, by arriving third at the finish line after a long struggle with Vito Postiglione, whereas Andrea Amici finished fifth. The Dane of Raton Racing thus confirmed his leading position in the PRO standings, in which he now has six points of advantage over Schlegelmilch, while the Italian of Imperiale Racing dropped third with Kodric just behind him.

In the PRO-AM, Patrick Kujala and Adrian Amstutz managed to turn the tide of a difficult weekend, by scoring a victory which enables them to stay in the lead of the championship, ahead of Rik Breukers, second with the colors of GDL Racing, after a fevered battle with Kujala in the final stages of the race. An off-track by Amstutz during Friday’s free practice forced the crew of Bonaldi Motorsport to skip Q1, thus remaining off the podium in Race 1. Good third place in their class for the duo of the team Antonelli Motorsport formed by Lorenzo Veglia and Andrea Fontana. The latter tried to keep up with the car of Nicolas Armindo (Konrad Motorsport) until the end.

Real revolution in the AM class,  which saw the Israeli of Vincenzo Sospiri Racing, Amir Krenzia, score a double victory in Germany and jump to the top of the standings. In the Lamborghini Cup, the Chinese Songyang Fu (FFF Racing Team) instead stopped the streak of good luck of Van der Horst Motorsport, which monopolized the first two positions in Race 1 with William Van Deyzen and Gerard Van der Horst, new leader of the standings ahead of his teammate.

Driver’s quotes

Martin Kodricć #32 - Bonaldi Motorsport (first overall and in the PRO class): “It was a very difficult race. Schlegelmilch immediately took a good pace and I tried to stay close to him. After my pit-stop, he was still few meters ahead of me, but I managed to pass him at the first turn. At that point, I focused on the lapped cars and all went well in the end. I’m happy, because this is also my first win”.

Patrick Kujala #34 - Bonaldi Motorsport (first in PRO-AM): “It’s been a difficult weekend. After Adrian’s off-track during free practice, I couldn’t take part in the qualifying sessions. Today, we’ve also had some problems, but I’m satisfied because I managed to do everything at my best and to secure this victory”.

Amir Krenzia #67 - Vincenzo Sospiri Racing (first in the AM class): “I’m happy because above all I won a competition with myself and demonstrated to have improved a lot. Of course, I have to thank the team Vincenzo Sospiri Racing, which put me in a position to do all my best and score a victory in both races this weekend”.

Songyang Fu #55 - Lamborghini Cup (first in Lamborghini Cup): “Today’s race was very complicated, due to bad weather conditions. I’m really happy about this success”.

The next round of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe, the last one on the calendar, will take place at the “Ricardo Tormo” circuit in Valencia on December 1-2, during the 2016 World Final, in which also the protagonists of the other two series Asia and North America will participate.
