On World Bee Day, Automobili Lamborghini confirms its commitment to sustainability

The Sant’Agata Bolognese-based company continues its environmental biomonitoring project

Sant’Agata Bolognese, 20 May 2026 – On the occasion of World Bee Day, established by the United Nations in 2017 and celebrated each year on 20 May, Automobili Lamborghini renews its focus on protecting the Planet. This occasion represents an important moment to highlight the essential role bees play in maintaining ecosystem balance and safeguarding biodiversity.

The biomonitoring project with bees is a concrete example of how Lamborghini interprets sustainability as a commitment that begins at our production site and extends to the surrounding territory,” said Ranieri Niccoli, Chief Manufacturing Officer of Automobili Lamborghini. “Lamborghini’s manufacturing site is not only where our cars take shape, but an ecosystem where innovation, responsibility and environmental care coexist every day.”

With this perspective, and as part of its ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability, Automobili Lamborghini launched an environmental biomonitoring program in 2016 in which bees play a central role. The initiative aims to monitor the quality of the environment surrounding the Sant’Agata Bolognese headquarters through the observation and analysis of these insects’ activity. The apiary created within Lamborghini Park now includes 17 beehives, with a total population of approximately 800,000 bees, more than 120,000 of which fly daily across the surrounding area.

The bees operate within Lamborghini Park, a further tangible demonstration of the company’s commitment to sustainability. Covering seven hectares and home to more than 10,000 plants, the park is a space made available to employees, the local community and scientific research.

Through this project, the company—together with academic partners—monitors insect activity using high-technology instruments installed inside the hives. Thanks to their intensive collection of nectar, pollen and water, bees are highly effective natural indicators of the health of the territory within a radius of approximately three kilometers from the hive, encompassing not only Lamborghini Park but also the surrounding countryside.

This system makes it possible to detect the potential presence of pollutants used in agriculture or urban green areas, while also providing valuable data on air quality and the overall level of environmental pollution.

The bee project represents a significant corporate social responsibility initiative that Automobili Lamborghini has been carrying out for ten years. It is a commitment aimed not only at its employees but at the wider community and the local territory, with the goal of making a tangible contribution to protecting the Planet and safeguarding ecosystems.
