The fourth of the six rounds of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe has started with the victory achieved by James Pull and Kelvin Snoeks. At Spa-Francorchamps, the PRO duo of the Bonaldi Motorsport team won Race 1 after an excellent start of the season. John-Louis Jasper and Pavel Lefterov (Leipert Motorsport) took second place overall and victory in the PRO-AM category. In the AM, instead, the duo of VS Racing, formed by August MacBeth and Andrej Lewandowski, scored their third victory of the year. Lastly, Joseph Collado (AGS Events) got his third win in the Lamborghini Cup.
The outcome of the first of the two races of the weekend, which reserved some surprises from the start, was partly unexpected. At the start, Vito Postiglione, author of his third pole position of the season, immediately suffered some difficulties. The driver of Imperiale Racing was involved in a contact at La Source curve, ending up turning around and lost several positions.
Daniel Zampieri, on the other hand, after starting from the first row, managed to take the lead and during the pit-stop he left the car of Antonelli Motorsport to his teammate, Giacomo Altoé, with a lead of over eight seconds. Altoè then defended the leading position and did a sprint finish, after several minutes under the safety car to allow the removal of a car from a dangerous position. But a 10-second penalty received after the end of the race, for an irregularity in the restart after the pit-stop, deprived him and Zampieri of the victory. The other duo of Antonelli Motorsport, formed by Kikko Galbiati and Joffrey De Narda, took second place in the class and third overall. A remarkable comeback allowed Postiglione and Karol Basz, who did the second driving stint, to get the third place in the PRO ahead of Altoè and Zampieri duo.
In the PRO-AM, Jasper and Lefterov took their first win and second place overall. Loris Spinelli and Juan Perez gained important points and arrived fifth at the finish line with the colors of Antonelli Motorsport and second in class, where they continue to lead the standings. Lorenzo Bontempelli and Emanuele Zonzini, instead, finished third for team Iron Lynx after scoring their first victory in the previous round at Misano.
In the AM class, the Pole Lewandowski took the lead and with his teammate MacBeth, they finished respectively ahead of the duo formed by Manuel Lauck and Florian Scholze (Dörr Motorsport) and Miro Konopka (ARC Bratislava).
In the Lamborghini Cup, Collado scored his third victory after the two wins taken at Silverstone and Misano. Gerard Van der Horst (Van der Horst Motorsport) and Supachai Weeraborwornpong (Team Lazarus) took respectively second and third place in their class.
Race 2, lasting 50 minutes with rolling start and mandatory pit-stop, will start at 10:25 a.m. CEST on Saturday and can be followed in live streaming on the website squadracorse.lamborghini.com/live-streaming and on the Lamborghini Squadra Corse Facebook page www.facebook.com/LamborghiniSquadraCorse. Target Racing driver Dennis Lind, who set the quickest time in Q2, will start from the pole position.
DRIVERS’ QUOTES
Kelvin Snoeks/Bonaldi Motorsport (1st overall and PRO): "It was an extraordinary race. The final phase was decisive and was also influenced by the safety car. At the restart I decided to not take many risks, and so I took this first victory ".
Pavel Lefterov/Leipert Motorsport (1st PRO-AM): "We started the weekend on the right foot, even though I couldn’t do any better in qualifying, because of a bit of traffic. I started seventh and at the start I slightly collided with Postiglione, with whom I want to apologize. Afterwards, I always remained in close contact with the leaders. We made a very fast pit-stop and in the end Jasper also did a good second stint".
Andrej Lewandowski/VS Racing (1st AM): "I lost some positions because of a turbulent start. Then, everything got back into order and we managed to finish eighth overall, which is a really good result for us. Now, I’m also first in the standings and will try to stay in the lead also tomorrow".
Joseph Collado/AGS Events (1st Lamborghini Cup): "It was tough, I pushed hard and in the end it went well. I'm happy with this result.".
