Sant’Agata Bolognese/Francorchamps 9 June 2019 - Mikael Grenier and Norbert Siedler gave Emil Frey Racing and Lamborghini its third victory of the International GT Open season in the opening race at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit, while the pairing scored more valuable points with ninth place in the second encounter.
Due to the success of the Emil Frey Racing Team last time out at Hockenheim, both the #14 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO of Grenier and Siedler and the #63 of Giacomo Altoé would received the customary 15-seconds pit-stop penalty during the race.
Qualifying third (#14) and fifth (#63), Grenier and Altoé maintained their positions at the safety car start - due to a last-minute rain shower, with Grenier moving up to second place ahead of the #14's mandatory pit-stop.
Having taken over from Grenier, Siedler rejoined in fifth place but began to make progress back towards the sharp-end with relative ease. Lapping, at times, full seconds quicker than those in front, the Austrian climbed to third place before moving up to second with just 16 minutes remaining.
The ProAm pairing of Adrian Amstutz and Patrick Kujala (Imperiale Racing Lamborghini) had been leading overall but fell under attack from the Mercedes of Miguel Ramos. Amstutz dropped to second at Bruxelles before being passed by Siedler on the approach to Pouhon.
Siedler then snatched the lead as Ramos ran too deep at La Source, with the Lamborghini opening up a three second advantage over the Mercedes.
That lead grew to over 11 seconds but there was another twist in the tale of the race as heavy rain fell once more, at Stavelot with four minutes remaining. Siedler made it home safe to record the victory, while Amstutz brought the #34 Imperale Racing Huracán GT3 EVO over the line for the ProAm win.
