Sant’Agata Bolognese/Abu Dhabi, 23 February 2019 – Timur Boguslavskiy and Frederik Schandorff have been crowned champions of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Middle East, now in its third edition. After dominating the Dubai round, the crew of the Huracán Super Trofeo Evo no. 9 were untouchable at Abu Dhabi too, clinching the title for Target Racing on the team’s maiden season in the Middle East one-make series. Konrad Motorsport celebrated two title crowns: Axcil Jefferies and Ramez Azzam were victorious in the Pro-Am in car no. 29 while Vincent Schwartz secured the Am title behind the wheel of car no. 11. The Lamborghini Cup saw Gabriele Murroni take top honours with the Huracán Super Trofeo Evo no. 88, crowning his second season in the Super Trofeo Middle East.
Race 2 opened with Boguslavskiy taking the lead after starting from pole; behind him Amici (FFF Racing) edged into second place, passing his team-mate Puhakka on the first turn. The Target Racing driver maintained a relentless pace right up to the pit-stop, handing the car to Schandorff with a good advantage over their closest pursuers. The Dane managed to stretch the gap built up by his team-mate and, at the end of the 50 minutes of racing, crossed the line with nobody near him. Second place went to Karol Basz, who had replaced Amici at the wheel of the no. 5 car; rounding out the podium was Kasai, who had taken over from Puhakka in the no. 63. Fourth place overall and the Pro-Am class win for Jefferies and Azzam, ahead of Vincent Schwartz, once again unrivalled in the Am class. Results that wrapped up the respective title bids for the two Konrad Motorsport crews with a race in hand. Although forced to retire, Gabriele Murroni already has the Lamborghini Cup virtually in the bag.
Schandorff dominated Race 3 from the off: starting from the front row, the Target Racing driver defended his lead, trying to pull a gap on Jefferies, who succeeded in stealing second place from Basz at the start behind the wheel of his Huracán no. 29. Just before the half-way point, car number 63 hit the barriers at turn 12: the driver, Kasai, was unhurt but the decision was taken to deploy the safety car. The race was thus yellow flagged, freezing the status quo: at the restart Boguslavskiy, who had replaced Schandorff, concluded his great escape by crossing the finish line first, followed by Amici who had replaced Basz in the Huracán no. 5. Azzam and Jefferies rounded out the podium and secured the Pro-Am win. Fourth place overall and a new Am class win went to Vincent Schwartz in car no. 11.
“We are really really happy”, Shandorff said after the prize-giving. The team did really a good job and Timur raced perfectly all weekend. We won almost everything, except one qualifying and there’s no better way to start the season”.
“We won the championship”, Boguslavskiy added, “what can I add, apart from saying it’s a perfect day? I’ve got the best team, the best team-mate, amazing pace, a fast car… I couldn’t ask for more”.
