Sant’Agata Bolognese/Le Castellet, June 24, 2017.
Vito Postiglione and Jonathan Cecotto are making a habit of winning. After scoring two victories in the previous round at Silverstone, the Italian-Venezuelan duo has also taken the victory in the first of the two races scheduled at Paul Ricard, during the third round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe. This success allows the drivers of Imperiale Racing to slightly extend their advantage in the PRO standings, in which, before this French round, they were leading by only one point over Raphael Abbate and Yuki Nemoto, who finished sixth with the colors of VS Racing.
Mikaël Grenier and Loris Spinelli, instead, took the second place and the latter got the pole position in Q1 and led the race in the early laps with the car of Antonelli Motorsport, while Rik Breukers and Axcil Jefferies (GDL Racing) completed the podium.
At the start, Spinelli maintained his leading position and controlled Postiglione’s attacks; the latter was constantly in his wake and made his decisive overtaking during the eighth lap, before leaving the wheel to Cecotto, who also did an excellent second stint.
The new driver line-up of Artline Team Georgia, formed by Sergey Afanasiev and the newcomer Giorgio Maggi, scored a good fourth place ahead of the car of Leipert Motorsport, shared by Jan Kisiel and Morgan Haber.
VS Racing got a double success with the first victory of Christopher Dreyspring and Liang Jatong in the PRO-AM and the fourth class win of Andrej Lewandowski and Teodor Myszkowski, who further increased their advantage in the AM.
Thanks to the third place obtained by Davide Roda on the other Huracán Super Trofeo of Antonelli Motorsport, Kikko Galbiati managed to keep the lead in the PRO-AM standings. In the same class, Niels Lagrange and Pieter Vanneste (Leipert Motorsport) took the second step of the podium.
In the Lamborghini Cup, instead, the Dutchman Gerard Van der Horst (Van der Horst Motorsport) repeated the victory scored in Race 1 at Silverstone.
Tomorrow, Race 2 will see Yuki Nemoto starting from the pole position with the car of VS Racing.
The race will kick off at 1:35 p.m. and can be followed in live streaming on http://squadracorse.lamborghini.com/live-streaming.
DRIVERS’ QUOTES
Vito Postiglione/Imperiale Racing (1st overall and in the PRO): "I did an excellent start and managed to remain very close to Spinelli’’s car. In the variant preceding the Signes curve, the only place where I could attack, I succeeded in overtaking him. From them on, I started gaining something and when Jonathan took over the wheel, he did a good job and managed to keep the lead till the checkered flag. This victory is very important to us even for the championship".
Liang Jiatong/VS Racing (1st in the PRO-AM): "It was a very tough race. This is my first victory in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe. This result also makes me more confident about the championship, as we are now closer to the leading position".
Teodor Myszkowski/VS Racing (1st in the AM): "Because of today’s heat, it has been a particularly difficult weekend start. In qualifying, we only were fourth in class and during the race we were forced to push from the beginning. Our race conduct was rewarded by this fourth victory of the season".
Gerard Van der Horst/Van der Horst Motorsport (1st in the Lamborghini Cup): "I really did my best. The last ten minutes were really difficult also because of the heat. That’s fine".
